The Archimedes Ambassador Programme

Empowering Young Leaders in Mathematics

The Archimedes Awards is proud to introduce the Archimedes Ambassador Programme. An initiative designed to recognise and empower students, educators, and schools who are passionate about enriching mathematics education and inspiring others to pursue problem solving with confidence and curiosity.

This prestigious programme invites students aged 16 and over, as well as teachers and school leaders, to take an active role in promoting mathematical enrichment within their own communities and beyond. Our Ambassadors are not only representatives of the Archimedes Awards, but also champions of equity, excellence, and opportunity in mathematics.

Student Ambassadors

The programme welcomes sixth form and university level students who are eager to lead by example and share their enthusiasm for mathematics with others.

Our Ambassadors Programme enables university students, alumni, and passionate educators to give back through leadership and mentoring. Ambassadors may:

  • Support or start a mathematics club.
  • Help peers prepare for competitions.
  • Mentor younger participants (in person or online).
  • Judge entries in Archimedes challenges.
  • Speak at school visits, workshops, or outreach events.
  • Contribute to blogs, videos, or classroom resources.

Each ambassador role is tailored to your strengths and schedule. You can choose how involved you want to be - and we’ll support you along the way.

In recognition of their commitment, Student Ambassadors receive:

  • Official Certificate of Leadership.
  • Personal reference letter from the Archimedes Awards team.
  • Access to exclusive enrichment materials.
  • Recognition for volunteering, including eligibility for Duke of Edinburgh’s Award hours.
  • Valuable experience for UCAS, scholarship, or internship applications.

Teacher and School/University Ambassadors

Teachers who become Ambassadors play a key role in driving participation in the Archimedes Awards within their school or network.

Teachers Ambassadors may:

  • Championing the Archimedes Awards within their school or local network.
  • Acting as the main liaison between their school and the Archimedes Awards team.
  • Coordinating school-level activities or regional heats.
  • Providing feedback or input on the development of challenge materials.

Ambassadors also enjoy valuable benefits, including:

  • Early access to competition resources and updates.
  • Professional recognition and certificates of contribution.
  • Opportunities to influence the future of our outreach and challenge design.

Schools participating in the Ambassador Programme receive:

  • National recognition as a committed Archimedes School.
  • Priority access to enrichment events and educator briefings.
  • Enhanced student opportunities, including leadership and ambassador roles.
  • A featured presence on our website and digital media platforms.

Purpose and Impact

At the heart of the Ambassador Programme is the belief that leadership in mathematics goes beyond high achievement. It involves outreach, mentoring, and the courage to encourage others. We are especially committed to empowering students from underrepresented backgrounds and increasing the visibility of girls in STEM. Many of our Ambassadors have used this platform to become role models for younger peers, helping to build a more inclusive and inspiring mathematical community.
