The Archimedes Awards Outreach

Expanding Opportunity. Inspiring Futures.

We believe every young person deserves the opportunity to experience the beauty, challenge, and excitement of mathematics - regardless of their background, school, or circumstances.  Through our competitions, we regularly encounter exceptional young problem-solvers from backgrounds that are currently underrepresented across the education system and in STEM-related pathways.

Our outreach work is aim to ensure that these students don’t just excel in mathematics - but are also seen, supported, and inspired to pursue futures in STEM.

We engage in outreach in two meaningful ways:

1) Our Outreach Programme Connecting with Schools, Teachers, and Institutions

We actively work to bring our mathematics competitions to students across the UK and internationally. Through direct outreach, we build close relationships with:

  • Primary and secondary schools in the UK and internationally.
  • Academies, trusts, and local education authorities.
  • Universities and mathematics departments.
  • Educational charities and STEM organisations.

How We Support Schools:

  • Free downloadable problem-solving pack.
  • Opportunities for schools to host in-house competitions.
  • Customised group registration support and guidance.
  • In-school activities and workshops.
  • Recognition and awards for participating schools and teachers.
  • Recognition and awards for students to stay engage in Maths.
  • Opportunities for student to gain DofE volunteering credit.

To Build a Clear Pathway from School Maths to STEM Futures

Mathematics is more than a subject - it's a launchpad for opportunity. By partnering with schools, universities, and STEM organisations, we create visible, meaningful routes from classroom learning to future study and careers.

Our outreach empowers students to:

  • Connect with mentors, role models, and specialist programmes.
  • See that maths is a gateway to STEM degrees and careers, especially for girls and underrepresented groups.
  • Build the confidence to pursue A-levels, university study, and beyond.

We help students see where maths can take them - and how to get there.

2) Supporting Educational Outreach Contributing to Broader Access and Equity in Mathematics

We do not just promote our own programme - we also help others expand access to mathematical learning. We support and collaborate with educators and organisations working to inspire the next generation of problem solvers.

What We Support:

  • Enrichment resources and challenge content to support teachers.
  • Donations of competition materials to charitable STEM initiatives
  • Joint events with institution/university maths outreach programmes.
  • In association with enrichment bodies like NRICH, NCETM, and others.
  • Opportunities for student volunteers or ambassadors to mentor younger learners.

Working Together for Lasting Impact

We welcome collaboration with educators, schools, sixth forms, universities, and STEM organisations who want to make a difference.

Our collaborations includes:

  • Signposting high-potential students from our competitions to specialist schools, university or STEM programmes
  • Joint enrichment events or workshops, particularly focused on underrepresented groups in mathematics
  • Supporting Women in STEM, female-led events and panels, and featuring inspiring role models in media and ceremonies.
  • Involving sixth form or university students in mentoring, judging, or content creation roles.
  • Student Ambassador Programme Sixth form and university-level students.
  • Co-develop problem-solving content that reaches students earlier and stretches them further

Have a project, event, or outreach idea we could support? Whether you're a teacher, a school leader, a university, or an outreach coordinator, we'd love to connect. Get in touch with us at outreach@archimedesawards.com
